The Aiping Tai Chi & Wu Dang Kung Fu Academy was established by Grandmaster Aiping Cheng, an internationally recognized authority on Chinese martial art forms who has earned Beijing’s highest martial arts honor, a rating of Top World Skill Level. She is widely considered to be one of the most knowledgeable and technically skilled practitioners of both Tai Chi and Wushu-KungFu in the world.
She has established the Center as a learning community where Americans can find new ways to improve the quality of their lives and become familiar with China’s cultural treasures. The Center is located in a comfortable, quiet setting just off the Post Road in Orange, Connecticut. Visitors are always welcome.
At the Academy, Grandmaster Aiping offers adults and children beginning, intermediate, and advanced level classes. She also offers private lessons. She teaches a wide variety of courses, ranging from Tai Chi and the Mystery of Chi to Wushu-Kungfu and Techniques of Self-defense. Students, who choose, have the opportunity to attend workshops on special topics, participate in public demonstrations, and compete in martial arts tournaments.
Grandmaster Aiping’s primary focus throughout is on health, well-being, order, balance and harmony. Though few will need to defend themselves against an assailant, all can use the lessons learned to better face the challenges of every day life.
The Chinese martial art forms taught at the Aiping Center can generally be divided into two groups – the soft martial arts such as Tai Chi and the hard martial arts such as Wushu-Kungfu. Both the soft and the hard forms are effective defense disciplines, popular competitive sports, and highly beneficial for mind and body.
The gentle flowing movements of Tai Chi are, in reality, a safe and highly effective isometric exercise. Unlike many other forms of exercise, the brain must be engaged at all times. Regular Tai Chi practice can improve balance, strength, flexibility, memory, coordination, well-being, the ability to concentrate, and the ability to manage stress.
The high-energy movements of Wu Shu Kung Fu, featured in the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" also require the continuous involvement of the mind. Regular practice improves timing, agility, coordination, strength, endurance, discipline, self-confidence, memory, ability to concentrate, and the ability to manage stress.
